Crochet Pixel Art Pattern Maker: Draw or Convert a Grid
Pixel art and crochet colorwork share the same idea: one square, one stitch. You can start from an image or paint by hand.
Start from a picture
- Use a simple, high-contrast image: an icon, a heart, a game sprite you made yourself, or a logo you have rights to.
- Pick 8 to 80 stitches wide. Small sprites look best at 16 to 32.
- Choose 2 to 5 colors and click Convert image.
- Fix cells by painting over them.
Or build it by hand
Open the tool, pick a color, and paint cells. Undo is available, and a row counter helps while you crochet.
Tips
- Keep each color change meaningful; single stray cells add yarn work.
- Read the chart bottom-up for flat work, alternating direction each row, as most single-crochet colorwork charts do. Check your own pattern convention.
- Save the project JSON so you can reopen it.
This is a chart tool, not a full pattern: choose yarn, hook and technique yourself.
